sneak peek

Over the weekend I found a little time slot in which I finished the railings and made a start on staining the lovely pear wood to a mahogany color. Not there yet, color wise but I wanted to see what it looks like after the first wash. And I did a dry fit;

Still all loose panels and the head board will be decorated with a hand carved top, so there's still loads to do. Just thought I'd share a sneak peek :)

Have a wonderful start of the week!

    1. Thank you Betsy! Credit to Gerry too :)
      This first stain color is 'brown mahogany' from Rustin's. It will receive more layers of different finishes though, till it's to my liking like the tests I've done. Then it will be richer in depth. I'm also thinking of only doing one or 2, just to show what it could look like. Leave the rest bare so a future owner can choose any color they want it to be. Walnut, red mahogany, or even white washed if it matches their interior design?

    Thank you for the tip about stain, it seems I can't find anything good to my liking over here, so will try to look for Rustin on internet.

    1. You're welcome Ewa, although i do not know what you are looking for in a stain, and which ones you've tried and tested (rejected?) already. I use the smallest bottles of their wood dye, as they call it, and have a selection of colors. That way I can mix them too if I want to. You can dilute it with white spirit but be sure to shake well before use. Rustins has many more very useful product, like grain filler, sanding sealer, Danish oil and French polish or shellack.

      I hope you can find it in Poland, and if you do, that it will be to your liking. It took me a while to find out what works well on what sort of woods. But it often depends on the final finish I'm after and the surface treatment the wood has undergone. In the past I've asked other people too, what they use to finish, but it seems almost everybody has their own personal preference or recipes. I know, rather confusing sometimes, when you want to venture into unknown territory but all I can do is suggest that you just continue to experiment, test and see what works best for you. And if you have more questions; I'm just an e-mail away :)
      Good luck!
