a choice of design

Hi dear miniature friends,

Here's a little update on the design for the head boards of these 4 poster beds. It's not a huge progress as carving is very time consuming and time hasn't really been on my side lately. Still, it's fun to show you where it's at and because I would like to hear your thoughts on a few things at this stage.

Before building even commenced we'd designed a classical theme of acanthus leaves decorating a simple yet elegant 4 poster bed. 2 Versions of the head crest are already chosen and are in process of being carved right now.

One is a bow ribbon tied to a bundle of flowers. Not finished yet, but these pictures will give you an indication.

Another one will receive a round centre piece. Very different in appearance and overall feel, as you can see from the mock up below.

Pretty too in its own right, with the decorative theme of the leaves continued. Yet, the overall feel is a little more rigorous than the top version with its frivolous flowers and ribbon.

Here's my question; If you could pick one, which one would that be? Would you go for the romantic look, or perhaps the bit more masculine one?

The reason I'm asking is because I'll be finishing 5 beds in total. The one with the ribbon is already taken. The other 4 are up for sale too. One with the round crest which leaves the remaining three having a headboard that is still open for suggestions or variations of the 2 above. In other words; here's the chance to get your own 4 poster bed with a custom designed head board crest.

I'd love to hear which one you prefer! And if you're interested or have any questions about the beds, feel free to contact me anytime.

  1. The first reminds me very much of a Grinling Gibbons carving...which I love. I prefer it because it will be a stunning centre piece to the headboard and beautifully mimics the leaves of the posts. Gorgeous!

Nathalie

  4. The beds are lovely Debora....me, I would probably prefer the headboard to look the same as the footboard, because I would put the bed full of petitpoint pillows and I would want the bed to be just a back drop for the needlework.

  5. I love both designs. It is a gorgeous bed. I can't wait to see it finished.
If I were choosing I would want the design with the bow. I am in total awe of your beautiful work Debora. XXX

  6. Hi Debora! Your carving is so exquisite! I like the floral with the ribbons best... I am such a romantic.... but the more masculine version is beautiful too and would appeal to those with more "modern" sensibilities. I look forward to seeing the completed pieces.... but it is also Fascinating to see your works in progress! Thank you for sharing!

  7. Hi Debora,
The beds are both wonderfull in their own way but I would pick the one with the ribbon. Because the headboard has some nice carving details then. Also in my opinion it looks more interesting with the opening in the centre in which the carving is placed. And last but not least, depening on the choice of colors in the room some of the carving can be decorated with goldleaf.

  10. Son una maravilla todos los trabajos que haces. A mi me gusta más el de aire romántico, pero el otro es también una delicia.

  11. Wow, that's stunning! I prefer the ribbon, but that could be because you can't see the round carving yet. The posts are equally beautiful!

  12. Debora your beds- and your carving -just sooo beautiful! I am going to go against the tide here and pick the plain one. I LOVE the ribbon, and I suck at choosing, but that one I'd pick. I have no ideas for different designs cuz I suck at that too haha!

  16. Our very own Grinling Gibbons! The ribbon design is, in my view, more feminine and the other has a slight masculine feel therefore terribly had to decide between the two. Not much help I'm afraid!

  17. Het zijn allebei weer ware kunstwerken maar de tweede zou mijn voorkeur hebben.

  21. Sorry! for my late response, but hank you all so much!! For all your lovely comments, ánd the suggestion you've made. I liked Elga's to just leave it plain ;-) That one would be pretty convenient because I've hardly had time to work on them. Let's hope the weekend will bring, not just me but all of us, loads of time to spend on miniatures! :)
