Hope it's the same at your place Karin.

As for the finish; did some tests and I'm tempted to go for wax. Just like Jeanette suggested. Given the time zones and the fact I could not get to sleep the other night when a storm was raging, who knows but we both may have been carving on miniatures on a rainy day at the same time across the world from each other.

The table legs are looking very nice.

I sometimes use micro wood carving chisels made for ship modelers. The black tabletop is actually real marble, 1,5 mm thick and nicely feathered with green and white.

The wood is merantie, quit basic and maybe too open a grain. But it's what I had at hand; hard and a nice color. For carving I always use a scalpel, nr 4. with the semi rounded blades used by surgeons. Just that, nothing else as real carving tools, especially for miniature work, are very expensive and hard to get by. What I do wish for are riffle files. Files with rounded tops used by gold and silver smiths. You can get into all the little corners and crevasses with those...

The finishing will be a big hurdle to take as i find it hard to do that right.... I can't use a filler for the open grain as that's way to hard with all the carving. And what kind of stain, if needed? And a finish...? Lacker? polish? or just basic wax? ...I don't know yet....anybody? help!Deborahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00288909507295400867noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4018860326266912322.post-17660452417365992462010-09-20T17:21:01.690-06:002010-09-20T17:21:01.690-06:00Debora, WOW!!!
