parquet pattern

I'm making a small traveling-display with multiple designs. So i can swap the floor from parquet to tiles, or turn the wall from classic to contemporary... Here's the start

  1. Love the floor and I suppose I will get to see the whole thing with a lovely Dolphin table in Castine? :-)

  3. Great idea! Love the design of the floor with the banding in a different colour. Which woods did you use, and what is the finish on them?

    1. Thanks Josje, desining the pattern was fun, you can go so many ways with it! As for the woods... a while ago i could get my hands on a big bundle of pre-cut venire (in narrow strips). Mahogany, beech, oak and pine. I used the first two; Mahogany and Beech. Used just a tiny bit of wood filler (brought to color with a bit of pigment) and sanded down to really smooth. The finish isn't all ready yet. It's just one coat of Danish oil, and my guess is a few more will follow before the desired sheen is reached.

  5. The light wood inlay looks wonderful around the design. Almost looks 3 dimensional.

I just love the colours of the wood after a coat of wax/varnish

    1. Thank you Giac, glad you like. It still needs a few coats but it won't change much. And we just had a wonderful day today; Queens day!!! The country celebrates our Queens birthday in an absurd manner. If time permits ill post about it :)))
