an in between job

In the coarse of time I bought some carvers, and stored them in their individual plastic pouches that came along witch each one. That was till yesterday. The time had come for something decent so i've made one large pouch or store-all. I have no idea but is that the right word for something like this in English?  Whatever it's called... it actually turned out to be quite a small job and really satisfying.

Good thing about DIY is, it is now exactly the right size for the tools, instead of depending on what's for sale. And it saved me some money too cos I had all the materials needed (canvas and ribbon) just lying around. I'm so chuffed with it I'll definitely make a few more for some other tools.

Have a great weekend,

  1. Very nice! This is very similar to what metalsmiths make for their chasing tools. We make it out of leather though.

    1. Ooh yes, leather is even better. It will last you a lifetime, and even longer. Very suited for sharp tools too!

    1. Hope yours works... mine jammed while I was at it and i had to take all apart. :( Turned out to be the motor but fortunately could get her running again. It delayed a lot cos the job is actually very straight forward. So do have a go Elga, you'll definitely enjoy it & profit from proper storage.

  5. We call it a tool roll in the USA or sometimes a tool roll up.

On a similar note, I love it when people who come from other countries post the name of an object in their native language as well as the English word. I find so many inspiring images and information by searching with the words that I would otherwise miss out on. Translate tools are handy but many times the English words I put into them do not relate to the terms that are used for objects in the another language.

  6. In Dutch the general word for a storage pouch is "foudraal". Be it for fishing rods, brushes or (musical) instruments. Tool roll in English is perfect to describes this version. Here we say "gereedschaps rol" to it. I looked for the English translation cos like you, it's far easier to find what you're looking for. Researching in Dutch is very limited, so translations are always very welcome here too. Thanks for sharing. Learning all the time :)

  7. Debora, a great little storage pouch. I have also seen similar ones at a show in Sturbridge, Massachusetts. One held paint brushes and each of the 3 sections had cardboard inside so that you opened it, tied the 2 ribbon ends and it formed a triangle that stood up for easy access. Great when you are at a workshop and don't have a lot of space. I have also seen them to hold basic tools that you are using in a class. I look forward to seeing your finished table. The legs are amazing....Penny

  8. Thanks for sharing Penny. Cos there are so much clever solutions around. The cardboard inside is a really great feature, just like you said, especially when space is tight. wonderful.
